Microsoft weaknesses await patches

April 12, 2010

Major security weaknesses in the Microsoft software Windows, Office and Exchange will be patched up with information to be issued on Tuesday, the computing giant has confirmed.

The updates coincide with major security patches to be released by Adobe Systems.

Microsoft said five of the 11 security updates will be labelled as "critical" and relate to "remote code execution" in Windows.

Five other weaknesses involve Windows, Office and Exchange, and the last update deals with "spoofing" in Windows' operating system.

Windows 7 will be served with four of the 11 patches, including a fix for a new virus which injects malicious content into people PCs after they press the F1 button when prompted so by a website.

Adobe Systems is to issue updates for its Reader and Acrobat software. The firm releases its own quarterly security updates to coincide with Microsoft's so-called Patch Tuesdays.
